The Grind and Variance
The Second Week of my Journey was moving around the places where I play. Sunday was no different, In the last week of the NFL Season, I played at MGM Springfield in Massachusetts. It's a short drive from Hartford and I hear this room had good action.
They were correct when they said MGM Springfield had good poker action. I started playing 1-2NL. MGM plays 8 Handed Max which for the record I HATE however the action made up for me hating the 8 Handed Games. I started off the first 30 Minutes of my session card dead and played a bad hand out of boredom. I raised in good position with Tc 5C. The flop came with 2 clubs and turn made a 3rd club completing my flush. When I made a small bet the villain immediately folded as I had a tight image and only picked up a small pot. The I doubled up with J9 after I rivered a straight vs a over aggressive All In. Again the action was great I ended the session of almost 4 Hours up with a $181 Profit. After playing 1-2 I moved to 4-8 Limit to play for the promotion. Random Seat wins money every time someone scores on a select NFL football game however after about 1 hour and not running well in Limit I ended up down $107. After the 4-8 Limit session I was happy I chose to end the session early. A good choice for sure. Overall MGM is a good Poker room and I'm going to put this in the poker rotation going forward.
The Downswing of Variance to put in the best words SUCKS and this session at Mohegan Sun on a Tuesday late night is the definition of SUCKS. First I made a great table choice as I sat at a great table, lots of chips being tossed around and I made the decision (which I still stand by) to play Tight Aggressive and waiting to pick up hand to make my moves. I got my shot when I picked up JJ on the button with a Tight Image, However the table was so loose my plan was to see the flop then adjust. Preflop the hand was 3 bet to $20 and 3 players including me were in the pot to a flop of 7c 4d 8h I bet $50 and both called me. The Turn was a 5c and both checked to me. I pushed all in for about $100 more into a pot of $200 now the pot is about $550 and the river is a 2c Long Story Short Both Players hit a gut shot with the 2 c completing a straight and chopped. UGGGGGHHH !!!
I rebuy for another $200 and the first hand after the rebuy I pick up AA next to the button. Buy the time action gets to me the preflop bet is already $30 I then say " Lets see if you really have a hand" and make it $60 both Villain's from last and call (Good News) and we go to a Flop of Kc 5d 5h. Both check and with only $140 left in my stack into a $120 pot I push all in again. I get Called and am told I only have KJ but I have to call. (Good News) The Turn is a 8c and RIVER IS A Kd (Bad News) .......UGHHHHHHH!
After 2 beatdowns I picked up and called it a day -$400 for the session and ended the week with a Bankroll of $4074.00, almost all my profit from last week was gone in 2 hours of play. Variance SUCKS!
Talk to you all Next Week !!!!!
